CommSys Website Redesign

Branding/Web/Digital

CommSys, Inc. is a niche technology company serving the Public Safety industry and have been providing CJIS middleware technology since 1989. They are recognized as an industry expert in CJIS Integration with their products being used by over 1000+ law agencies in 48+ states. During the process of rebranding I was responsible for complete creative direction and production of company assets including a new responsive website, refreshed logo, marketing collateral and other paper goods.

Problem

CommSys elected for a full redesign of their website to better reach their target market of partner resellers while also addressing the information needs of their law enforcement end users. The goal of the new website was threefold:

  1. Achieve greater industry awareness
  2. Establish an online image of industry stability, in-depth technology expertise and trustworthy, seasoned knowledge of the Public Safety sector
  3. Explain the nuances of their competitive advantage in terms of Cost Leadership, Differentiation and Focus

As a leader in Public Safety software, it was important to have a high-end and intuitive website, on par with major competitors, to both market and sell their products.

Approach

The first step in refreshing the CommSys brand started with a new website, as everything would stem from there. Once the data was organized internally, it was handed off to me to determine the organization and amount of web pages needed using wireframes.

While the information architecture was being conducted, I performed thorough research on how competitor websites were designed and arranged and determined their strengths and weaknesses. This information would be key to creating an intuitive website for CommSys.

Multiple homepage options were designed that showcased an overall feel of what the site could look like and presented to the client.

After a design direction was agreed upon, desktop and mobile mockups were created in XD using all client provided text content as well as stock imagery I procured. The XD mockup was set up through the prototyping feature with notes on how elements should appear and animate on the page. This would then be handed off to Adaptix Creative for front and back-end development.

Solution

A website constructed from the ground up with entirely new content and design language was delivered to bring CommSys' website up to today's technological standards.

The result of thorough competitor research and design exploration resulted in a site that lead CommSys to experience a 500% increase in reseller partners since launch. This was a complete redesign of the previous website with new navigation, new content, new color palette, new styling and the addition of SEO standards the previous website lacked.  In addition, the high-tech design of the website served as the cornerstone for new collateral, business cards, and trade show booth and accessories.

In fact, the company has experienced a 500% organic increase in reseller partners since the website launched. As a small business with limited resources, CommSys is delighted with the redesigned website’s ROI and performance in delivering increased business opportunities.
